Suspense
In his three previous plays for BBC-tv C.S. Abraham has drawn on his Merchant Navy background. Tonight once again his authentic touch strengthens the suspense in "The Cable", a drama set aboard a merchant ship about to leave harbour. The story concerns her two passengers: a businessman and his small son. When the boy disappears it seems that his mother, who is separated from his father, must have quietly taken him ashore. But as the ship slowly moves upstream towards a temporary anchorage it becomes clear that the boy must still be on board. Unknown to the crew he is in the most dangerous place of all. If he is not found before the ship lets go its anchor tragedy is inevitable.
