Seven programmes showing how pure physics research is applied to achieve industrial progress.

One stage beyond the conventional jet is the ram jet; at very high speeds the movement of the aircraft rams the air in the jet tube, and does away with the need of a turbine-driven compressor. This programme from Bristol shows some of the intensive research and testing needed to develop these engines.
