Science on Saturday: Physics in the Service of Man: 6: Flame in the Wind

on BBC Television

Seven programmes showing how pure physics research is applied to achieve industrial progress.

One stage beyond the conventional jet is the ram jet; at very high speeds the movement of the aircraft rams the air in the jet tube, and does away with the need of a turbine-driven compressor. This programme from Bristol shows some of the intensive research and testing needed to develop these engines.
Shown in the 'Eye on Research' series on October 14, 1958
