Scene: The school and the town of Villette
Distracted by seven weeks solitary residence in the school, Lucy is found by Dr. Bretton lying unconscious in the street. Taken to his home, she encounters again her godmother, who entertains her for the rest of the vacation.
During a visit to the theatre, Dr. Bretton meets Paulina Bassonpear. Lucy returns to school happier for the knowledge that she now has friends in Villette.
