One hundred and fifty years ago Brighthelmstone or, as we now call it, Brighton, was one of the centres of fashion - a watering place, founded by the Prince Regent, where fashionable crazes abounded. One such craze was the umbrella. Now a symbol of respectability, the umbrella was then considered by some to be a monstrosity.
L.A.G. Strong, one of Britain's foremost literary figures, has written a charming play with this background. He introduces us to Mr. Maitland, who makes umbrellas, and his son, Will, who is ashamed of his father's trade. Colin, an actor friend, invites Will to meet Richard Brinsley Sheridan, the esteemed actor-manager, playwright and Member of Parliament, with whom they become involved over a dangerous caricature of the Prince Regent.

On the night of January 26 outside broadcast commentators went to London Airport to see pilots and air hostesses learn their exacting jobs.
In this telerecording Berkeley Smith shows you over the latest British European Airways aircraft, the Viscount 800, and Raymond Baxter handles the controls under actual service conditions-well, almost!
