This is the first of a series of three programmes which will try to follow the growth of a ballet. The series was televised last year and because of its success it is being repeated, in a slightly different form. It starts by showing how a character is created through the steps of the dance, and how a dancer is trained to execute a variety of movements which can be built up into a pattern.
There will be a short ballet at the end of each of the three programmes specially written by Gilbert Vernon to illustrate the various points made. The first ballet is about a guardsman and two sisters who come to watch the changing of the guard. The second, on January 3, will be a scene from "Alice in Wonderland"; and the third, on January 12, will be a Pas de Deux based on the Cinderella story.
