Children's Newsreel

The Maid of Domremy
by Joe Corrie.
From the statue by Chapu.
Most people know the story of Joan of Arc, who dressed herself in soldier's clothes and led the French army to victory against the English. But nobody knows the whole story-nobody knows exactly what Joan's life was like before she set out to save France. What were her father and mother like? Did she have any brothers and sisters? How did she become convinced that God meant her to be the saviour of her country? Mr. Joe Corrie has tried to answer these questions in this play, which shows the seventeen-year-old Maid a few days before she sets out on her inspired mission. She is still in her father's home in the village of Domremy in the year 1429.
