Marie Rambert was trained by Maestro Enrico Cecchetti, maitre de ballet of the Diaghilev company. She appeared with that company in 1913, and later in London in the ballet "Pomme d'Or". After her marriage to Ashley Dukes, she opened a school of ballet and founded the Ballet Club in her own little theatre now known as the Mercury. Here regular performances of ballet are given and a repertoire of over twenty-five original works has been produced. The company of young English choreographers and dancers trained by her includes Pearl Argyle, Maude Lloyd, Andree Howard, Frederick Ashton, Harold Turner, Antony Tudor, William Chappell, and many others whose work has created an English tradition in ballet.
