Zoe Ball

Zoe joins Radio 2's weekend line-up to present the Saturday Early Breakfast show, after recent stints sitting in for Dermot O'Leary and Ken Bruce.

Each week Zoe has puzzles and difficult questions in Ball of Confusion, plus guest contributors Kirsten O'Brien, Hilary Oliver and Ambrose Heron take turns to round up family events and movies in Here Comes The Weekend.

You can also join the Sleepover Club. It's junior choice for the new millennium. If you've got a houseful of kids camping in the lounge for the weekend, or you're going to be up all night partying with your friends, then you can join. Every week Zoe and Emma Forbes will be inviting a group of members to pick a favourite tune and make a special dedication on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

The version was recorded for the radio show Pop Go The Beatles (1 August 1963). There's also Stuck On Two, The Song Swap and Playing Hard To Get.

Sounds Of The Sixties began in 1983 and Brian has been at helm since 1990, bringing to the programme his distinctive voice and unmatchable experience of 60s pop shows.

Dermot is joined for a live session from Julian Plenti, otherwise known as Interpol singer Paul Banks, and has music from Lightning Seeds. He also speaks to comedian Frank Skinner.

Dermot has Julian Plenti in session, aka Interpol singer Paul Banks, who's been playing solo sets under this pseudonym for a while and has now released his debut solo album.

There's also music from Lightning Seeds, who've reformed for a summer tour. Lightning Seeds is the brainchild of the Scouse producer and guitarist Ian Broudie, who started his music career in the punk outfit Big In Japan and has collaborated with a diverse mix of artists including Icicle Works, Terry Hall, Alison Moyet and The Zutons.  Dermot also speaks to the comedian, and one-time Broudie collaborator, Frank Skinner.

With a live solo set by Julian Plenti (pseudonymn of Paul Banks , lead singer of Interpol). Plus a live set by the re-formed Lightning Seeds and a chat with their Three Lions collaborator Frank Skinner.

Singer-songwriter John Sebastian marks the 40th anniversary of the 1969 Woodstock festival

John Sebastian marks the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. With contributions from the original festival organisers and musicians who were there, and tracks by the festival artists.

American singer-songwriter John Sebastian marks the 40th anniversary of one of the most legendary events of the hippie movement. Featuring contributions from some of the musicians who were there including Richie Havens, Carlos Santana, Pete Townshend and Joni Mitchell, plus previously unreleased tracks recorded at Woodstock by Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead and Joe Cocker; this documentary sheds a light on the celebrated festival.

 

Generally regarded as the last major event of the hippie era, Woodstock has become idealized in American popular culture as the festival where nearly half a million "flower children" came together to celebrate the counter culture. At the time, it held the record for the largest music audience in the world.

 

Original festival organizers Artie Kornfeld and Michael Lang, along with Academy Award winning director Michael Wadleigh, talk about their memories of the festival and members of Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Canned Heat and The Grateful Dead reveal their Woodstock highlights, interspersed with tracks by headline artists at the festival.

The 40th Anniversary of Woodstock is produced by Des Shaw, who also produced the Monterey 40th Anniversary for Radio 2.

The Lovin' Spoonful frontman John Sebastian recalls the most famous of all music festivals, Woodstock - the three-day-plus hippy event at which he sang and that kicked off 40 years ago today, when nearly half a million "flower children" arrived at an upstate New York farm that was ill-prepared for such an influx of revellers.

With input by organisers Artie Kornfeld and Michael Lang, MC Chip Monck, Oscar-winning director Michael Wadleigh (1970 documentary Woodstock), and performers Richie Havens (first on the bill), Pete Townshend, Joan Baez, Graham Nash, Joe Cocker, Arlo Guthrie, Country Joe McDonald, Stu Cook (ex-Creedence Clearwater Revival), Tom Constantin (ex-Grateful Dead), Adolfo "Fito" De La Parra (Canned Heat), Carlos Santana and others. And Joni Mitchell, who wrote the 1970 ode Woodstock. Plus previously unreleased Woodstock recordings.

Our After Midnight acoustic session guest, Aynsley Lister, picked up the guitar at the age of eight and played his first gig at 13. One year later, on a family trip to San Francisco, he was jamming at Lou's Bar on Pier 49. 

Brought up on his father's record collection, he had learned to play by ear and would sit for hours in his bedroom playing along to old 45s of Freddie King, John Mayall and Eric Clapton. He plays an acoustic set for Bob and talks about his latest album, tour and past influences.
