4/6. Bruce Dickinson showcases classic, contemporary and obscure hard rock and metal. Tonight he chats to Scorpions founding member Rudolf Schenker and guitarist
Matthias Jabs , who joined the German band in the late 70s. Rocking hard since 1965, Scorpions rank among the country's biggest-selling acts - up there with Boney M , Modern
Talking and James Last - and have inspired the likes of Metallica, Def
Leppard and Iron Maiden. Their one big UK hit, Wind of Change (1991), remains their signature track.
4/7. Stuart Maconie recalls critical and defining moments in popular music. He continues with the late 1979 release of the Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight, which is credited as the first rap record to enter Billboard's Hot 100. The Harlem trio's single - which samples Chic's Good Times and is markedly good-natured and attitude-free by modern rap standards - reportedly sold more than eight million copies worldwide while peaking at number 36 in the US pop charts. A top three hit here in the UK, it proved to be not just a novelty record as claimed by many in the music industry, instead kick-starting a rap (and later hip-hop) revolution.
