New series 1/3. Hollywood-born composer/arranger/producer Richard Niles devotes three illuminating programmes to musical melody throughout the ages, from medieval Gregorian chants to the Bee Gees.
Melody proves difficult to describe, but Niles explores its place in classical, rock, pop, jazz and, perhaps, rap music, and its links with the human voice, harmony, rhythm and lyrics. Assisting Niles in his quest for the perfect definition of melody are pop masters the Bee Gees, Canadian rockers Nickelback, keyboardist Bob James , jazz guitarist Mike Stern , soprano Natasha Marsh and others.
