A pre-Christmas bash with live music from the Feeling and Orson.
With America's Greatest Hits.
A 50th-anniversary special in which Radio 2's resident rock 'n' roll enthusiast
Mark Lamarr rewinds to the afternoon of 4 December 1956, when legends Elvis Presley , Carl Perkins , Jerry Lee Lewis and, allegedly, Johnny Cash all convened at Sun studios in Memphis and together performed over 40 songs as part of an impromptu, once-in-a-lifetime jam session. Among the genres they covered were gospel, country, doo-wop, blues and pop. Lamarr celebrates the event to coincide with the reissue of those rock recordings. Contributors include rock journalists and historians
Peter Guralnick and Colin Escott.
Plus archive input from Jerry Lee Lewis , Johnny Cash ,
Carl Perkins and Sun Records owner and producer Sam Phillips. Producer Sue Clark
