A 50th-anniversary special in which Radio 2's resident rock 'n' roll enthusiast
Mark Lamarr rewinds to the afternoon of 4 December 1956, when legends Elvis Presley , Carl Perkins , Jerry Lee Lewis and, allegedly, Johnny Cash all convened at Sun studios in Memphis and together performed over 40 songs as part of an impromptu, once-in-a-lifetime jam session. Among the genres they covered were gospel, country, doo-wop, blues and pop. Lamarr celebrates the event to coincide with the reissue of those rock recordings. Contributors include rock journalists and historians
Peter Guralnick and Colin Escott.
