3/4. Robert Lindsay continues his celebration of distinctively stylish Hollywood stars with ferociously sensual starlet Ava Gardner , whose Hollywood mythology is linked to tabloid-worthy celebrity marriages - to husbands Howard Hughes , Frank Sinatra and Artie Shaw - and to a body of work defined more by her seductive and alluring presence than by her dramatic talent. Her many films included The Killers, Pandora and the Flying Dutchman, Mogambo, Bhowani Junction, The Night of the Iguana and On the Beach.
Despite her status as Hollywood royalty, Gardner felt more at home in Europe. She died in London in 1990, aged 67.
