Radio 2 continues an occasional series of exclusive, invitation-only songwriter showcases with an hour of song from the pioneers of the "Philly sound", Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff , who wrote and produced the slick, string-rich and bass-thumping R&B-pop hits that foreshadowed the disco era.
Among their defining discs from the 1972-74 era are If You Don't
Know Me by Now (Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes), Back Stabbers, Love Train and For the Love of Money (all US gold records for the O'Jays) and Me and Mrs Jones (Billy Paul ). Performing songs from the duo's vast repertoire this evening is Sheila Ferguson , who sang with the Three Degrees on two 1974 Gamble and Huff hits -
TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia) and the UK number one smash
When Will I See You Again. Producer Mark Hagen
