4/8. Influential soul/funk DJ
Norman Jay spins a personalised selection of classic, forgotten and modern funk recordings from the 50s onwards, showcasing popular performers and underground acts, including the Meters,
Funkadelic, Creative Source and BT Express. Each week Norman is joined by the Fatback Band's
Bill Curtis for a weekly masterclass in funky drumming.
4/6. Singer Suzi Quatro pays tribute to the mavericks of rock'n' roll, profiling both the recognised giants and the unsung heroes. She continues with Minnesota-reared singer/guitarist Eddie Cochran, who died in 1960, aged 21, following a car accident (in Wiltshire) that also injured Gene Vincent (who is profiled in next week's show). Cochrane's big hits include C'mon Everybody, Somethin' Else, Three Steps to Heaven (a posthumous UK number one in June 1960), Weekend and his signature classic Summertime Blues. Contributors include guitarist Darrel Higham and sound engineer Larry Levine.
Featuring Goldfrapp live in session.
