To mark the 30th anniversary of the US release of Steven Spielberg 's aquatic suspense thriller Jaws, RT film editor Andrew Collins assesses the movie's seismic impact. The 1975 medium-budget shark tale reinvented the box-office blockbuster and nearly drowned out the memory of earlier hits like Love Story , Airport, The
Godfather, The Exorcist, The Sting, and The Towering Inferno with its colossal takings and unusually wide cinema release and aggressive ad campaign, foreshadowing George Lucas 's Star Wars two years later. Contributors include those who worked on the film, including
Jaws novelist and screenwriter
Peter Benchley , producer Richard Zanuck and production designer Joe Alves. Plus music, clips, archive material and nostalgic input from Jaws fans Steve Wright , Jonathan Ross , Jeremy Vine and Steve Punt. Producer Mark Hill

2/4. Prior to the arrival of the Beatles in 1962, trad jazz enjoyed success in the pop charts. George Melly recalls this unusual period in interviews with "trad boom" stars Acker Bilk (Stranger on the Shore, 1961) and Kenny Ball , who with his Jazzmen had a 1961 hit with Midnight in Moscow (original title Padmeskoveeye Vietchera ).
