5/6. The life and career of Mississippi-born blues singer, songwriter and guitarist Robert Johnson , who died in 1938, aged 27, unaware of the immeasurable impact his recordings would have on postwar Chicago blues, jazz, R&B and rock. Few 20th-century artists remain as mythically defined as Johnson, who allegedly earned his great talent in a crossroads meeting with Satan, immortalised in the singer's 1936 classic Cross Road Blues.
Today Paul Sexton explores the UK connection with Johnson, talking to many of the British stars who have been influenced by him. With contributions from Eric Clapton , Larry Love ,
Bob Brunning , Tony MacPhee , Ronnie Wood , Dave Kelly , Michael Roach and Peter Green ; also featuring Tube busker Stephen Petit.
