With new country, including top tunes and news from Nashville.
Folk, roots and acoustic-based music, plus an interview with singer Eliza Carthy.
2/8. Reggae enthusiast and aficionado Mark Lamarr showcases choice examples of the Jamaican musical genre. This instalment features an interview with innovative roots star Max Romeo.
2/4. REM bassist Mike Mills introduces a profile of singer Glen Campbell , who paid his dues as a session guitarist for the likes of the Beach Boys before forging a career as a rather unhip, Grammywinning purveyor of country-inspired easy-listening hits that now rank as pop classics. Among the many 60s gems are By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Hey Little One, Galveston and the dreamy Wichita Lineman. In 1975 the single Rhinestone Cowboy put him back in the charts after a four-year lull. Campbell was among the first country acts to cross over into the pop charts, and his early work is featured in tonight's show. With input from Jimmy Webb (who wrote
Campbell's key songs), producer Al Delory , bassist Carol Kaye and Glen Campbell.
He is joined by Word magazine editor Mark Ellen.
