Beethoven and Bruckner. Nine Symphonies Charles Mackerras continues his Usher
Hall Beethoven cycle with the work that Schumann described as "a slender Greek maiden between two Norse gods". Bruckner's lyrical Fourth was immediately acclaimed at its premiere, though the composer's insecurity had led to seven years of tinkering before it was ready. Introduced by Donald Macleod.
