Donald Macleod introduces one of the biggest hits of the London musical stage in the years following Purcell's death. First produced at Drury Lane in 1699 and with music by Jeremiah Clarke , Daniel Purcell (Henry's younger brother) and the bass singer and star of the show Richard Leveridge , The
Island Princess was a semi-opera mixing speech and music in a similar manner to Purcell's King Arthur.
This of the music only features the singers and players of Combattimento, directed by David Roblou , and was made the day after they performed it at the 1995 Lufthansa Festival of Baroque Music.
