Robert Frost defined poetry as that which is lost in translation. If he was right, then the poets Edwin Morgan from Scotland and Italian Roberto Sanesi have been wasting their time; Morgan has published
English versions of poems from half a dozen languages and Sanesi has rendered
English poetry from the Anglo Saxons to Basil Bunting into Italian.
As part of the Festival they held a public dialogue about this impossible art.

Philip Larkin. the respected poet, was passionate about jazz and for several years reviewed jazz records for the Daily
Telegraph. In the second of two programmes, Peter Dickinson traces Larkin's interest in jazz through his writing, with examples on record. Larkin's words are read by DAVID KILLICK.
The Indian writer Vikram Seth has published a travel book, a collection of lyric poems and a novel in Pushkinian sonnets.
All three have received awards. In conversation with poet Peter Porter , he explains his delight in different forms and how their disciplines inspire him. Producer JULIAN MAY
