Forging the Universe
One of the most surprising features of the universe is that it appears roughly the same in whatever direction you look at it. Galaxies, for example, seem to be scattered through space with uncanny regularity. How did such order emerge from the heat and violence of the big bang?
Paul Davies , Professor of Theoretical Physics at Newcastle University, reviews current theories about the evolution of the early universe and considers how the cosmic arrangement of galaxies may have been forged in the first instant of creation.
