Libretto by GEORG c
KLAREN, revised for this performance by ADOLF DRESEN , after WILDE'S story, The Birthday of the Infanta. Music by Alexander Zemlinsky (sung in German)
The Spanish Infanta is given a grotesque dwarf as a plaything for her birthday. He falls in love with her and joyously misinterprets her pleasure as mutual attraction until he sees himself in a mirror and literally dies of shame.
