The Anniversary of the Third Programme

The Director-General of the BBC 1944-52, recalls the origins and purpose of the Third Programme which began 30 years ago today.

Alan Badel reads this autobiographical poem by the author of The Borough with the character of Peter Grimes , the subject of Benjamin Britten 's opera, which can be heard next Sunday afternoon.
