Schoenberg's unfinished oratorio
BAVARIAN RADIO CHORUS
SOUTH GERMAN RADIO CHORUS AND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA conducted by MICHAEL GIELEN
(Recording made available by courtesy of South German Radio)
Introduced by HANS KELLER who writes: The ascent to ultimate truth was Schoenberg's self-imposed task, both in this unfinished oratorio and in his creative life. A passage from Exodus is relevant: ' Let not God speak with us, lest we die! ' Schoenberg feared, in fact, that he would die once he finished the work.
