BRIANLARGEhas done a good deal of research, both in Czechoslovakia and France, into Martinu's life and work, and in this programme tries to form some assessment of his stature. He argues that the operas, choral works and symphonies represent him at his best, and that the chamber music (more often heard in this country) shows a less comprehensive side of his personality.
