Eight programmes on noise and its control
1: One man's noise ...
As many as 24 million people in this country live where road traffic noise is ' undesirably high.' Other sources of noise, particularly aircraft, contribute to Britain's astounding noise problem. But the need for noise control depends on its effects on individuals - and these effects don'only depend on loudness.
Presented by ROBIN BRIGHTWELL , with contributions from PROFESSOR IAN CHEESEMAN, DR D. W. ROBINSON and DR F. J. LANGDON ‡ (For publication see page 12)

by Priscilla Metcalf
Miss Metcalf's grandfather and grandmother came to Los Angeles in the 1880s from Tennessee and the Mississippi. Within a few years a town of
11,000 inhabitants became 50,000. She recalls particularly the 20s, when the sign 'Los Angeles City Limits' was planted miles from nowhere among the cacti and the coyotes.
