born 6 September 1869
To many people the name of Watford Davies will conjure up the person from whom they learned to appreciate music. Variations in the portraiture of a mythical figure by W. B. STANFORD
Regius Professor of Greek, University of Dublin 3: The Voyager
Homer's Ulysses was always homeward bound, in contrast with the outward - bound Byronic wanderer of the Romantic tradition. Many later writers including Charles Lamb and James Joyce preferred the Homeric portrait, but transformed it into an allegory of everyman on the voyage of life. Reader michael mcclain
