To many people the name of Watford Davies will conjure up the person from whom they learned to appreciate music. His outstanding gifts as a broadcaster have, however, obscured his distinguished achievements as a composer. The music he wrote between his appointment to the Temple Church in 1898 and the outbreak of war in 1914 represents him at his finest
