Truss takes a tongue-in-cheek look at howthis has provided endless material for fiction writers and directors of horrorfilms and television comedy from Stanley Kubrick to Tony Hancock. Liverpool resident Charlie Lambert uses the centenary of the city's Anglican Cathedral to tell the remarkable story of its creation on Hope Street. It took 75 years to complete, contained the world's biggest organ, dwarfed any other cathedral in the UK, and was built using styles and techniques from previous centuries. This programme includes archive recordings of the architect Giles Gilbert Scott and fresh interviews with the people who worked all their lives on building Scott's design. Plus a look at the role the building has played in the life of the city and how the cathedral has worked with the Catholic
