Introduced by Sue MacGregor Boys Will be Girls
When boys and girls go out to play, it's harder than ever to tell them apart. Now that both sexes are wearing make-up and jewellery- and backcombing their hair - it's clear that the androgynous look has hit the streets, as well as the charts. While the boys shop for silk dresses alongside their girlfriends, DANIEL MACMILLAN meets the weird - and the wonderful.

In the past, the villages needed few contacts with the towns of Exmouth and Sidmouth only half a dozen miles away, and an East Budleigh man can still recognise his own folk by their speech.

Road to Rocio by DOUGLAS LIVINGSTONE
1984 Sony Radio Award for Best Drama Production with James Bolam,
Sara Kestelman, Michael Kitchen. What was Rocio all about? Religion, booze, sex, macho men, brotherhood, gypsies, singing and dancing - all those things came into it, but for the four English people who went on the pilgrimage to this tiny place in the south of Spain, it was difficult to find out why it meant so much to the Spaniards. Perhaps it was something to do with a face.
It is the best thing Radio Drama has done this year. (THE TIMES) Funny, inventive and well-written ... hats off to Douglas Livingstone. Fantastico!

Athol Fugard
// anyone passed me on a street corner in Port Elizabeth, I'd have a fairly accurate sense of where they'd come from, where they might be going, what their life's about. If you know my work you'll realise that that sense of the texture of a character is very important to me.
Athol Fugard talks to Paul Allen about his life and work in South Africa and his plays, including Sizwe Bansi is Dead, Boesman and Lena and the award-winning Master
Harold ... and the Boys which he produced for the National Theatre in London.

The Parasites by DAPHNE DU MAURIER abridged in 12 parts by MARGARET ETALL
Read by Penelope Lee (I) 'Parasitism is a negative reaction to the struggle for existence, and always implies a mode of life that is nearer the line of least resistance. The effect upon their hosts ranges from the slightest local injury to complete destruction.'
