A wily civil servant decides that the only answer is to stop printing money and devise a new system of barter - but he falls foul of his own measures.... It's getting very difficult. The world's major art galleries now use equipment from lasers to nuclear reactors to examine and restore paintings. These studies are providing new insight into the way artists worked and are revealing new facts about paintings, as well as helping to identify fakes more easily.
