On The Move
Some families need to change their homes, schools, friends and a whole way of living, quite frequently. The demands of working in oil companies, the Armed Forces, the Diplomatic Corps, and other careers sometimes call for considerable family upheavals.
Molly Price-Owen looks into the effects on a young person's life and tries to discover how serious the consequences are of losing a home and settling in another, leaving friends and making others, departing from one school routine and its teachers to another, and moving from one environment to a new one - not once, but successively.

As the cost of institutional care rises at an alarming rate, the idea of providing welfare facilities within the home becomes more important.
Ian Bradley looks at new initiatives for helping those in need-the old, the sick, children in care - not in institutions but at home. How can relatives, friends and neighbours become involved and how far can we go in do-it-yourself social services? Producer GILLIAN HUSH BBC Manchester

An unemployed engineering executive is being interviewed for a job. During the discussions a crisis occurs on the shop floor. The candidate is asked what he would do. He goes to the workshops, puts on a white coat, sizes up the problem, works out the solution. Result, satisfied workers, dissatisfied interview board. Managers do not put on overalls. No job. Margaret Korving follows the stories of three of today's job-seekers: a redundant executive hoping for a fresh start; a young graduate looking for a relevant job; and a school-leaver with not-so-brilliant O-levels. Is their predicament solely due to the country's economic plight, or are other factors at work?
