A series of five documentary programmes to mark the BBC's anniversary
Presented by Rene Cutforth

The war had conditioned the British people to radio: the term 'captive audience' might have been coined in that period. When peace came the cinema industry and theatre were not fully into their stride; books, newspapers and magazines were still hampered by newsprint rationing; TV was still a minority sport - and BBC Radio had the field to itself.

Contents: The Royal Occasions - Wedding of Elizabeth and Philip, Funeral of George VI, Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II - the commentators who covered the events - the emergence of the disc jockeys - Dick Barton, The Dales, The Archers, Take It From Here and The Goon Show, Under Milk Wood and the Third Programme.
