1: Double Duckling
Produced by DAVID A. TURNER
Broadcast tn Story Time on Jan. 3
Ballygullion is a small town in Ulster, invented more than sixty years ago by Leslie Montgomery , a bank manager who became a master of the comic short story. As Lynn Doyle , he published a dozen collections of Ballygullion tales, starting in 1908. Several of his riper characters reappear in book after book-notably Big Billy Lenahan , poacher and illicit distiller; the eccentric solicitor Mr. Anthony, an incurable romantic; and a small farmer. shrewd and kindly Pat Murphy , ready for mild skulduggery but often the voice of tolerance.
