"You think there can't possibly be anywhere else to go with it and then they come up with this!" That's Uncle Bryn marvelling at the taste of Mint Baileys, but he could just as well be talking about writers James Corden and Ruth Jones's ability to keep their gem of a sitcom fresh.

Tonight's hour-long special - and the extra length suits it - is full of the usual endearing touches, from Smithy (Corden) wrapping presents in tin foil to Mick's love affair with the turkey and (less endearing, but very funny) Nessa's (Jones) bathtime grooming habits.

The two clans are gathering in Billericay for Christmas Day, unaware of a major development: Gav (whose hair looks increasingly like something out of LazyTown) may be on the verge of taking a job in Cardiff so that he and Stacey can be together. When his mum Pamela and best mate Smithy get wind of the news, all hell breaks loose in an Anglo-Welsh face-off that's pure gold.
