What exactly caused the tsunami on Boxing Day 2004 to be so large and so deadly? In May, a team of scientists set out to explore the epicentre of the earthquake, deep below the Indian Ocean. Scientists now confirm that uplift on the sea floor caused the tsunami, with 750 miles of the faultline rupturing in just 500 seconds. Other areas are also at risk, so what can now be done to help protect them?
