2/6. The millionaire lifestyle of Neil and his fiancee Jetcy belies a £45,000 credit card debt and a wedding day that's on course to be a financial disaster. Will they be able to cope with living on a budget?
Money: Smart Spenders 7.00pm BBC1
Tonight's episode of the fix-your-finances show introduces us to a fascinating couple. Neil and Jetcy can't afford their extravagant lifestyle, and it's easy to see why. They've spent £4,500 on an engagement ring and Neil owes ten times that on his credit cards.
There's a nice scene when the show's thrift queen, Jane Furnival, tells Neil that he's completely out of touch with reality. "I'm a millionaire, possibly a billionaire," he protests. "I just don't have the money yet." Yeah, right.
But all Jane's warnings to persuade them to tighten their belts keep hitting the brick wall of Neil's certainty that, any minute now, he'll be rich. It would be good to revisit the couple in a year to see who's right... (David Butcher)
