It's Antony's 18th birthday, and the family plan to do him proud. With all of them crammed into the sitting room with friends and neighbours, the scene is set for a memorable celebration. Last in the series.
(Postponed from 21 October)
Repeated next Saturday on BBC2 (S)

The tension and teasing of family life may be put to one side in the final instalment of this banal, vulgar and very funny sitcom. It seems there is more than telly and chat on the agenda as son and household slave Antony (Ralf Little) celebrates his 18th birthday. His coming-of-age promises a crowd scene in what could be an epic episode of the series in which normally next-to-nothing happens. We can confidently expect more subtle writing and enjoyable performances, especially from the outstanding Sue Johnston and Ricky Tomlinson as Barbara and Jim. This episode, originally scheduled to be shown last week, now looks like the logical culmination to a series that has successfully transferred to BBC1. There is no confirmation yet of a future series, but a Christmas special is in the pipeline. GE
