The goings-on among the well-to-do and their servants increase as this Edwardian drama reaches episode two. In the St John household, canny housekeeper Mrs McClusky plots to smuggle in her errant son Ned as a trainee footman. He catches the eye of new nanny Matty, despite her better intentions, and it's more than his table skills she's interested in.
There's a shock in store for Hannah when she meets the stringent nanny she will be helping. She soon realises how repressed and unloved her charges are, but her resolve strengthens.
Meanwhile, the lovely but roughly hewn Lydia strains to improve herself and even manages to make a vaguely favourable indent on the hauteur of her ancient nanny mentor.
Jean and Lionel are expecting a visit from Jean's sister-in-law
