Twenty-one years ago today Monty Python's Flying Circus was first shown on British television. With sketches like the Dead Parrot, the Spanish Inquisition and the Ministry of Funny Walks, Monty Python became a landmark in the history of comedy. When Graham Chapman died in October 1989, a cycle that had begun with the meeting of five young Oxbridge writer-performers and an American animator was brought to an end. John Lloyd presents the story of the team from its earliest television performances, through the creative battles of the series to its eventual break-up.
