... of Jesus
How much is really known about the man Jesus? Donald Reeves believes that, just as the gospel writers created images of Jesus which were influenced by their own background, so it is important that people today relate to relevant and meaningful images of Christ: 'Some black Christian communities do not like having to worship a white
Messiah. For them it's a sort of racism. They want to produce their own Messiah, a black Jesus Christ.'

with Paddy Moloney and the Chieftains, Noirin Ni Riain.
Paddy Moloney is regarded as Ireland's most famous living traditional musician.
Together with the Chieftains, he has made Irish music popular worldwide. He tells Val how priests at one time conducted open-air masses when such worship was illegal. In her youth, Noirin Ni Riain learnt hundreds of traditional and religious songs collected from rural Irish-speaking areas. Today, she is gaining international recognition for her unique presentation of this music. Val meets her in the grounds of Glenstal Abbey near Limerick and hears her sing her setting of The Magnificat in the Abbey's icon room.

'Do we want to teach our children that Auschwitz was all there was?'

Samuel Oliner was the only one of his family to survive the Holocaust. A Polish peasant risked her life to save him. For the last seven years, Oliner has been collecting stories from people who rescued Jews in the Second World War. It is a project inspired by a personal debt of gratitude and a desire to recover the light of human decency from the blackness of Nazi-occupied Europe. In Rescuers Speaking, dramatised by Wilfred Harrison from Oliner's research, actors retell the true stories of some of those anonymous heroes.
