A Clan Revolution
Education is the next priority in Margaret Thatcher 's cultural revolution. State education is poised for its most radical change since the war. There will be more emphasis on 'the three Rs', seven-year-olds may be tested, and parents and governors can run their schools. Critics say it will bring back Mr Gradgrind 's classroom chants - and sharpen divisions between rich and poor. Mrs Thatcher says standards will rise and class barriers be broken down. John Ware has talked to the architects of the policy that the Prime Minister hopes will lead to 'a class revolution'.

Barry Norman presents his personal review of the week's cinema releases.
Roxanne is a comedy starring the underrated Steve Martin , who plays a fire chief with an unfortunately large nose. He expresses his love for Daryl Hannah in letters which she believes are written by a more handsome man. Maurice is the latest production from Merchant
Ivory, who once again turn to E. M. Forster for inspiration. James Wilby , Hugh Grant and Rupert Graves play out the complex stages of Forster's own homosexual awakening.
Let's Hope It's a Girl is a charming family drama set in a large and dilapidated Italian country house.
A strong cast is headed by Liv Ullmann , Philippe Noiret and Catherine Deneuve Director DOMINIC BRIGSTOCKE Producer BRUCE THOMPSON
