The arts in action

With Hugh MacDiarmid , Soutar was the spearhead of a new Scottish literary renaissance between the wars. He wrote children's poetry and poetry in dialect. Crippled and bed-ridden he was still a vital force in the cause of a revived Scottish nationalism.
