The story of one of show business's most scintillating entertainers - Gertrude Lawrence , the Berrnondsey girl whose career begins when she runs away from home in 1915 to form a music-hall act. The Chariot revues and Noel Coward 's comedies are her stepping stones to stardom and soon she is acclaimed in both London and New York. Her career goes from triumph to triumph, but her personal life is less successful.
