A View of Europe in the Twentieth Century
A television history in 13 parts
Written and narrated by John Terraine
With personal comments by Peter Ustinov

Ferment, rivalries, revolution!
It was in 1904 that the trajectory of European history suddenly entered a steep curve. It could even be said that the fall of the Mighty Continent began in that year.
In this episode we show the sequence of mounting crises through which the feuds of the Europeans expressed themselves. We look at the armed forces and their new extensions: submarines and aircraft. We watch the apparently inexorable progress of national rivalry towards an explosion - which turns out to be the explosion of an assassin's bullet at Sarajevo.
