[Photo caption] Robert Taylor as Johnny Eager

Johnny Eager, leader of a gang and promoter of a dog racing track, is on parole from prison. While paying a visit to his parole officer, in his respectable guise of taxi driver, he meets two sociology students who are studying the work of the department. A tip-off from a friend tells Eager that the parole office has sent some officers to pay him a surprise visit at home to check up that all is as it seems. When he gets there he finds the parole officers with the two sociology students in tow. One of them, Lisbeth, is falling in love with him, and Johnny discovers that she is the step-daughter of the District Attorney who sent him to prison...
