A discussion between
ERNEST GELLNER
Professor of Philosophy in the University of London and J. RENFORD Bambrough
Fellow of St. John's College. Cambridge
Do we disbelieve because experience has taught us to do so, or because we know a priori that the belief in question is absurd? Both-we know both kinds of scepticism. When we say that a belief is absurd we do not necessarily mean that it is illogical. We might mean that it would imply a ' very weird kind of world.' In other words we have a ' world-view.' Or haven'we?
