All over America, although the suburbs grow chaotically and the countryside is being ruined, the centres of cities are being adventurously redesigned, and the schemes for the centre of Philadelphia are perhaps the most adventurous of all. During his most recent stay there Peter Shepheard , architect and connoisseur of landscape, was once again bowled over by the vitality of this thriving city of four million inhabitants.
